This creation sprouted from math and love for the Great Barrier Reef the result is a crochet version of the reef. The technique was originally discovered by mathematician Daina Taimina. Her twin sister Christine then created a whole underwater sea world model in crochet of corals, kelps, anemones and other reef-forms. The Crochet Reef is a display of handmade marine biology, it has since been featured in science as well as craft magazines. Now this exhibit of the Great Barrier Reef is currently showing in Chicago and will be exhibited at NYU in Spring 2008. I call this a new way to raise ecological awareness.
